Emergency Preparedness Plan

There is a need to prepare to deal with Emergency Situations. The emergencies may be natural or man made. Earthquake and flood are examples of natural emergencies whereas fire can be both natural and made made. Chemical spillages and leakages are examples of Spillages and Leakages are examples of man made disasters. Bhopal Gas Tragedy has been the biggest tragedy of our times where the leakage of the deadly methyl isocyanate gas caused 3000 deaths and affected another 40000 severely.

Emergency Preparedness Plan deals with such emergencies, establishes the emergency organization, emergency procedures e.g. evacuation and also defines the roles and responsibilities during emergency situation. EPP also establishes the training procedures to deal in such situations and maintenance of the emergency gadgets like fire hydrants and extinguishers. Its not true that only the organizations storing large quantities of chemicals should have an emergency preparedness plan. Every organization must have an EPP in place as fire, earthquake, flood, electrocution and suffocation can take place any where

The only difference is that the organizations which do not store chemicals normally have only onsite emergency plan. However in case of organizations having large quantities of chemicals (Manufacture, Handling and Storage of Hazardous Chemical Rules 1989) there is a need of both onsite and offsite EPP.

We can prepare both offsite and onsite EPP as per the organization's need.
